Rebecca Landrey scored the winner in overtime to lead the Hart Modular Homes-All Rhodes Pilot Service U14 ringette squad to a 6-5 victory over the Richmond Roar in the championship final of the Sweetheart tournament in Kelowna.
Landrey's goal came on helpers from Alexi Christieson and Martina Spooner in four-on-four double OT.
The final was a scrappy one, as the Prince George squad overcame 34 minutes of penalties but played solid in front of netminder Tashina Wilmont.
They opened the tournament with an 18-3 win over Northwest Vancouver, then beat Shuswap 6-2, and the Vernon Bombers 7-4. Their only loss was against the Roar in a 7-5 decision.
Prince George beat a Vancouver team 7-3 in the semifinal to advance to the final.
Keira Meroniuk led the squad with 11 goals, followed by Christieson with eight and Alexa Mocliac with six. Sarah Irving notched five tallies, while Martina Spooner and Austin Campbell each had four. Jennifer O'Neillo, Landrey and Will deDreu each had three goals, while Ally Boyes, and Temia Welsey had singles.
Wilmot was outstanding between the pipes.
