Kenny Lally was without an opponent and did not get to fight last weekend at the B.C. Golden Gloves boxing championships in Victoria.
He was hoping his luck would change in Winnipeg, site of this weekend's Manitoba Golden Gloves. But the news coming from coach Bob Pegues was not good for Lally, the 119-pound Inner City Boxing Club member.
"The trip is off," said Pegues, in an email message. "The match for Kenny turned out to be a 141 (pounder who) could squeak down to 132 (pounds). Kenny will be in this sport a long time and we do not want to subject him to unnecessary blows from opponents that size.
"He is not really happy with my decision."
Jag Seehra was also expected to make the trip to Winnipeg but suffered a back injury and, on the recommendation of his doctor in Prince George, will not fight.
Last weekend in Victoria, Seehra won his second straight B.C. Golden Gloves title, beating David Funk of Maple Ridge by a 19-13 count in the 141-pound final.
