Kenny Lally was hoping to see his relatives in India.

Instead, he'll have to settle for Germany.

The 20-year-old Inner City Boxing Club member won't be going to the Commonwealth Games next month in New Delhi, India. Boxing Canada has decided not include the 52-kilogram Olympic team hopeful on the eight-member team that will compete in the Games, Oct. 3-14, citing a history of poor performances for Canadian boxers below the 60-kilogram weight class.

Lally's Inner City coach, Bob Pegues, was told of the decision in June, when Lally was on his way to a silver medal in the 54kg class at the Elite Continental championships in Quito, Ecuador. Instead, Lally will join Canada's B-team for a dual meet in Germany, Oct. 8-10. Lally will also attend a national team training camp in Lodgepole, Alta., later this month.

"It's very disappointing, but at least they're looking after him and they're making sure he gets that other (tournament), because we need that international experience," said Pegues.
