Krause made of Iron

Even without snow, Peter Krause is pretty quick. Krause, a Smithers resident who was the Prince George Citizen Iceman champion in February, was the top-placing regional athlete at the Oliver Half Ironman Triathlon on the weekend.

Krause, a Smithers resident who was the Prince George Citizen Iceman champion in February, was the top-placing regional athlete at the Oliver Half Ironman Triathlon on the weekend. Krause finished 21st in a field of 527 men.

The event challenged athletes to complete a two-kilometre swim, 93km bike ride and 21km run. Krause finished the test in a time of four hours 39 minutes one second, which gave him fourth place in the 40-44 age group. His individual times were: swim, 33:29; bike, 2:25:22; and run, 1:34:11.

Prince George's Rob Hardy also had an impressive day in Oliver. With a time of 4:49:58, he stepped across the finish line 41st overall and sixth in the 45-49 category. He started his race with a personal-best effort in the swim (time of 37:46) and was equally strong on the bike (2:43:16) and run (1:23:56).
