Kodiaks smash to silver

The Kodiaks Red proved they belong at the Best of the West volleyball tournament in Calgary Easter weekend.

The 16-and-under girls team, representing the Prince George Youth Volleyball Club, won the silver medal at the iniviational tourney at the University of Calgary.

The Kodiaks Red lost the final 2-0 (17-25, 18-25) to the 403 Selects, a squad from Calgary.

After posted a round-robin record of 2-3 and finishing fourth in their pool, (two of their three losses went to three sets) they crossed over to the playoffs and beat host U of C Dinos 25-20, 25-23.

Brooke Unger and Hallie Drezet were selected to the all-star team.

"The Dinos had won their age category for the last seven years," said PGYV president Dan Drezet. "They [Kodiaks Red] had a good run, they were invited based on their bronze medal at provincials last year."

Next up for the Kodiaks Red are provincials in Abbotsford from May 2-4.
