When the Prince George Youth Soccer Association under 14 tier 1 girls Kodiaks travelled to Coquitlam last weekend, they exceeded all expectations.
The Kodiaks returned home with gold medals hanging around their necks after posting a perfect 4-0 record in their group at the Coquitlam Metro Ford Tournament.
The 17 members of the team opened the Labour Day weekend tournament with a 4-1 win over Burnaby, it was the last time they allowed a goal. Other wins were 2-0 and a pair of 3-0 victories.
Aleisha Ferreira was solid in goal for the Kodiaks especially in the first game when she faced an abundance of shots, while it was a team effort on the offensive side of the ball.
Kodiak defenders Nicole Watt and Mikeila Oliviera were named as team MVPs, while midfielders Whitney Anderson and Simona Mastroia helped jump start the offensive attack.
The tournament win concluded the 2013 season for the Kodiaks. The final tournament of the season will see the teams split up as players are drafted by different countries in a mini World Cup event for the PGYSA select teams. Games started Friday.
