The 14-and-under boys squad from the Prince George Youth Volleyball Club played to a ninth-place finish in Tier 1 at the B.C. club championships in Abbotsford on the weekend.
Coached by Glenn Wong and assisted by Mark Gurney, the PGYVC Kodiaks posted a 1-2 round-robin record with a 2-1 victory over Vancouver's Apex Flash (25-10, 17-25, 15-8) and losses to the Surrey Force and Abbotsford's Orangemen Crush. They finished third in their pool and crossed over to play the Orangemen Monarchs. The Monarchs came away with a close win, 25-19, 26-24.
The Kodiaks' loss knocked them out of medal contention but they bounced back with wins against the Eagles (25-18, 25-20), and the Apex Flash (25-18, 25-22) to finish ninth.
The team, sponsored by Accelerated Physiotherapy includes: William Bourque, Kolby Lukinchuk, Caleb Gurney, Colby Graham, Noah Jeans, JT Laxdal, Christopher Magrath, Nolan Minck, Zach Ohori, Dayton O'Neill, Rafael Rodrigues and Matthew Shand.
PGYVC's Red 14U girls finished 11th in Division 1, Tier 2 in Abbotsford.
They posted a 3-3 record, with victories against I Dig It Fusion, Thunder White (Vancouver) and KVA Pack (Kamloops). They suffered losses to Seaside Surf (White Rock), BCO Black (North Vancouver) and Club Gecko.
The 13U girls squad named Kelsey finished 12th in Division 1, Tier 2 with a record of 2-5. They recorded victories against KVA Pack and Surrey's 12U squad, but suffered losses against the Ducks, BCO Black, BCO Noir, AVC Girl (Burnaby) and Thunder Silver (Vancouver).
The 14U girls Black were 14th in Division 2, Tier 2 with a record of 1-5. They defeated the Alberni Thunder in their second-to-last match, 25-18, 25-19.
PGYVC's 15U and 16U boys and girls squads will be in Abbotsford this weekend for their provincial championships.
