Knights turn out lights on Canadians

In a teaser to the upcoming 2013 B.C. Minor Baseball Association peewee triple-A championship, the Prince George Knights swept a four-game series last weekend against the visiting Vernon Canadians.

In a teaser to the upcoming 2013 B.C. Minor Baseball Association peewee triple-A championship, the Prince George Knights swept a four-game series last weekend against the visiting Vernon Canadians.

The Knights, sponsored by LTN Contracting, earned 12-2 and 10-5 wins Saturday at Spruce City Stadium and followed up Sunday with 12-2 and 15-7 wins. The Knights will host the peewee championship at the same stadium Aug. 8-11.

Prince George pitchers

delivered solid performances, with Quinten Astorino and Tommy Kreitz earning Saturday's wins, while Ryan Hampe tossed a complete game in Sunday's opening 12-2 win. Zach Swanson picked up the win in the finale.

Knights catcher Seth Lapre led the offence, going 8-for-13 at the plate with two home runs, both in Game 1, two doubles and 10 runs batted in, while Soren Erricson had a pair of timely doubles to drive in seven runs. Prince George batters out- hit Vernon 40-24 through four games.

Next up for the Knights is a triple-A level tournament in

Kamloops, starting June 28, where they'll be grouped in a pool with teams from Sherwood Park (Alta.), Chilliwack and

Kamloops. After that the Knights will be in Kelowna for the Valley of the Champions tournament, July 11-14.
