A fifth-place finish was in the cards for the Prince George LTN Contracting peewee Knights at a triple-A baseball tournament in Kamloops on the long weekend.

The Knights finished with a 2-1-1 record, missing the semifinal round due to the tiebreaker - Chilliwack had allowed one less run than Prince George during the round-robin games. The Knights took their frustrations out in the consolation round Sunday, pounding the Richmond Chuckers with 18 hits to finish the tournament with a 14-4 win.

Ryan Hampe started the game for the Knights on mound, while Liam Campbell replaced him after two innings. Campbell pitched five innings allowing four hits. Offensively the Knights were led by Tommy Kreitz, 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and Brevin Gervais who drove in three runs.

The Knights began the tournament Friday dropping a 10-5 decision to the Sherwood Park A's of Alberta. Saturday the Knights rallied tying Chilliwack 4-4 before beating Kamloops 4-0.

The tie was bittersweet for the Knights who had a 4-2 lead in the final inning. Ajay Nickolet pitched a solid six-plus innings against Chilliwack.

In the 4-0 win over Kamloops, Quinten Astorino threw six innings of one-hit ball, while striking out six and walking one. Campbell earned the save throwing nine pitches.

The Knights will take their 19-8-2 season record to Kelowna, July 12-14, for the Valley of Champions triple-A tournament. Prince George will serve as the host team for the triple-A peewee provincial championship, held Aug. 8-11 at Spruce City Stadium.
