It wasn't the start the Prince George IDL Midget Knights wanted.

The Knights fell 9-5 in their opening game of the 2012 Western Canada Midget double-A championship in Morden, Man., to the Swift Current Indians on Friday.

With the loss the Knights (0-1) fell 1.5 games out of first place in the tournament standings after the Indians (2-0) handed the host Morden Wild their first loss in the day's late game by a 6-4 score.

Today the Prince George squad has a pair of games, starting at 9 a.m. (7 PST) against Altona (1-0) before suiting up to play the Acme Red Sox of Alberta (0-2) at 6 p.m. (4 PST). The Red Sox will play the Indians in the morning as they look for their first victory.

The fourth game today has the two Manitoba squads facing off at 3 p.m. (1 PST) with the Wild and Altona going head to head.

Prince George gets their opportunity to play the hosts from Morden in the tournament's final round-robin game Sunday at noon. The championship final is scheduled for 3 p.m. unless there are tiebreakers.

The Knights earned the trip to Morden when they won the British Columbia midget championship on Citizen Field, July 29, beating the Tsawwassen A's 7-3. The win was redemption for many of the veteran players on the Knights who lost in the 2011 final and in the 2010 semifinal.
