The Prince George Lomak Bulk Carrier double-A bantam Knights outscored their opposition 53-7 en route to winning a single-A baseball tournament in Mission on the weekend.
"This was a tournament we expected to win," said Knights co-coach Shane Taylor. "It was a good tournament for us not to get lulled into playing bad baseball. We were focussing on our game."
Prince George pounded Chilliwack 11-0, White Rock 13-2 and Abbotsford 12-1 all in five innings.
In the semifinal, the Knights beat Aldergrove 9-3 and then walloped host Mission 8-1 in Sunday's final. Both games stretched to seven innings.
Cole Beacom earned the win on the mound against Aldergrove, fanning seven batters in six innings of work.
Liam Campbell was perfect in the first three innings of the final, with three strikeouts. Cole Schwing came on in relief and gave up a passed ball with two out in the seventh inning, allowing Mission to score its lone run.
First-year pitcher Ryan Bachand was also stellar on the mound in the first two preliminary games.
"Our offence was really good and the kids made a lot adjustments at the plate with the slower pitches," said Taylor. "Right-fielder Grayson Wagner had the best on-base percentage at .818. He was ninth in the batting order."
The Knights take on their older Prince George Total Tops midget Knights in an exhibition game this Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Citizen Field.
They'll follow that up with the Sussex Invitational in Kamloops June 28-30 and the Valley of Champions tournament July 11-13 in Kelowna.
The majority of the bantam Knights will compete as the Zone 8 team at the B.C. Summer Games, July 17-20 in Nanaimo.
