A pair of solo home runs rattled Prince George LTN Contracting Knights starting pitcher Ryan Hampe as the Aldergrove Dodgers staked out a 9-0 advantage.
But the Knights rallied in the bottom of the fourth inning with four runs to make it 9-4. The teams were playing the sixth inning at press time.
Hampe gave up solo runs to Jayden Knight and Mack Berry in the first inning at Spruce City Stadium under the Friday night lights. Hampe struggled through another inning, giving up another two runs and three more hits before being replaced by Liam Campbell.
The Knights had a tough time hitting the Dodger pitcher Colby Ring. The lefty pitched 3.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits along with six strikeouts. Seth Lapre hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning, his second of the 2013 Under 13 triple-A Peewee Provincial Championship, which ended Ring's night.
If the Dodgers hold on for the win, both the Knights and Dodgers will have 1-2 records. The Victoria Red Eagles are also 1-2 and the Nanaimo Pirates are 1-1. In order for the Knights finish second and clinch a semifinal berth Sunday, they'd need the Pirates to beat the Dodgers this morning (8 a.m.) and then beat the Pirates themselves at 3 p.m.
The Cloverdale Spurs (3-0) have clinched first place and will play the Red Eagles in a meaningless game for the Spurs today. The Knights hold the tiebreaker with the Red Eagles.
