Wade Klippenstein's tour of duty in the Western Hockey League now extends to its eastern border in Brandon.
The Brandon Wheat Kings have hired the Manitoba native as their new director of scouting.
Klippenstein spent the past six seasons with the Prince George Cougars as a coach and manager and was the Cougars' assistant GM and director of player personnel for four seasons until he resigned at the conclusion of the 2012-13 season in April.
Klippenstein, 43, was born in Boissevain, Man., and raised in Dauphin. He also served as head scout of the Moose Jaw Warriors and was an assistant coach with the Prince Albert Raiders and Saskatoon Blades before he joined the Cougars as an assistant coach and assistant GM. Klippenstein took over from Drew Schoneck as head coach of the Cats in December 2008, a tenure that lasted until Dean Clark was hired in May 2009.
He replaces Al Macpherson, who retired after 27 seasons with the Wheat Kings.
