One of the Prince George Spruce Kings top defencemen is taking his game to the Ivy League.
Karan Toor, the Kings big, six-foot, 190-pound 19-year-old from Surrey, has committed to play at Dartmouth College for the 2015-16 season.
Dartmouth is a NCAA Div. 1 Ivy League School in Hanover, N.H. that competes in the East Coast Athletic Conference.
"Karan is a tremendous player and a tremendous young man who is very deserving of this scholarship," said Spruce Kings general manager Mike Hawes. "Karan plays against the other team's best players every night and is widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the BCHL.
"He also contributes very well offensively, making him one of the best all-around defencemen in our league."
In only his second season with the B.C. Hockey League's Kings, Toor tallied five goals and 26 assists for 31 points in 51 games. His plus/minus was a team-leading +30 and he also blocked 133 shots.
Toor paired with Mitch Eden on the blue-line to become the Kings top defensive tandem during the 2013-14 season, collecting 72 points between them. They were co-recipients of the Spruce Kings defencemen of the year award they received in March prior to the post-season.
Luckily for Kings fans, Toor, who attended the Spruce Kings Prospect Camp in 2012, will return to the Coliseum for the 2014-15 season.
"Karan will be the cornerstone of our defence group next season as he continues his development before heading to Dartmouth College in 2015," said Hawes.
Toor is the fourth player from the Spruce Kings 2013-14 squad to accept a NCAA scholarship.
His playing partner Eden is competing for St. Lawrence University, a Div. 1 school in Canton, New York, this season.
Forward Christian Weidhauer is taking his game to the University of Alaska - Anchorage this season, while forward Chad Staley is off to Alaska - Fairbanks in 2015-16.
