The Prince George Spruce Kings have added one of Alberta's premier midget-aged players to their talent pool.

The local B.C. Hockey League team has signed forward Layne Sniher for the 2018-19 season. Currently a member of the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League's Calgary Buffaloes, Sniher has put up 14 goals and 40 points in 30 games so far this season. Four of his goals have come on the power play.

Sniher, a 2000-born player, was in Prince George recently and had a chance to skate with the Kings. Head coach Adam Maglio and his staff liked what they saw.

"We are excited to add an elite player in Layne for next season," Maglio said. "Layne has shown on the ice his willingness to get to hard areas to be a very effective offensive contributor.

"We look forward to working with Layne next season to achieve both his individual and team goals."

The Buffaloes are in third place in the AMHL's Chrysler Division with a 19-8-3 record.

The Spruce Kings, who hold down first place in the BCHL's Mainland Division with a mark of 25-15-4-4, have a home-ice doubleheader against the Chilliwack Chiefs this weekend. Games are set for Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.
