The Prince George Spruce Kings picked up three out of a possible four points on at the B.C. Hockey League Showcase in Chilliwack on the weekend.

On Sunday, the Kings took the Victoria Grizzlies all the way to second overtime before Kevin Massy scored with under a minute left to lift the Grizzlies to a 2-1 victory.

It was Victoria's first win of the season.

Saturday, the Kings rallied from an early 1-0 deficit and netted four goals in the third period to double the Trail Smoke Eaters 6-3 and secure their first win of the season.

The Kings went into the showcase weekend having lost their first four games to start the 2014-15 campaign. They're now 1-4-0-1 with three points and are in fifth place in the Mainland Division.

The Grizzlies scored the first goal of the game at the 6:13 mark of the first period on a power play marker by Brayden Gelsinger.

After a scoreless second period, forward Corey Hoffman scored his second goal of the season at the 15:25 mark to tie the game at 1-1.

The score remained knotted for the rest the period and neither team could tally the winner in the first five minutes of overtime.

The Grizzlies outshot the Kings 36-27 as Victoria netminder Mitchel Benson stopped 26 of 27 shots. Prince George goalie Liam McCloskey stopped 34 of 36 shots.

Saturday, Prince George trailed 3-2 early in third period until 18-year-old forward Braiden Epp scored the equalizer for the Kings at the 4:37 mark.

The score would remain knotted at 3-3 until Kings 19-year-old forward Connor Logan, netted his first goal of the game at the 18:09 mark which would eventually hold up as the winner.

With Smoke Eaters goaltender Bailey MacBurnie pulled in favour of an extra attacker, Kings defenceman Stephen Penner added an empty-netter a little more than a minute later. Logan added his second with two seconds left in the clock.

Harlan Orr gave the Smoke Eaters an early 1-0 lead at the 11:19 mark of the first period.

A minute into the first period, Kings captain Jake LeBrun tied it up at 1-1. Rhett Willcox scored on the power play for another Smoke Eaters lead, until Kyle Johnson evened it at the 14:02 mark.

Keinan Scott gave Trail a 3-2 lead at the 3:27 mark of the third period until Epp scored a minute later to spark the Kings comeback.

Parker Colley, Alex Stoley, Adam Brubacher, Adam Burnett, Nick Guerra and Cavin Tisley each chipped in single assists.

Spruce Kings 20-year-old netminder Sam Tanguay, acquired in a trade Sept. 15 from the Aurora Tigers of the Ontario Junior Hockey League for Alex Brooks-Potts, swept aside 34 of 37 shots he faced. Trail outshot the Kings 37-35 and fall to 2-3.
