They've been homebodies for most of the season.
Now it's time for the Prince George Spruce Kings to expand their horizons and get out on the B.C. Hockey League road with games this weekend in Trail, Penticton and West Kelowna.
For the next five games over two weekends the Spruce Kings will try to keep the winning formula they've found the past three weeks, taking 11 of a possible 14 points in their last seven games at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.
Tonight's game in Trail (7:30 p.m.) will be a battle of two third-place teams. The Spruce Kings (8-8-0-2) rank third in the Mainland Division and they'll be facing the Trail Smoke Eaters (9-8-1-0), who are currently tied for Merritt for third in the Interior Division.
The Kings climbed to the .500 mark for the first time since the first game of the season when they beat the Coquitlam Express 6-4 Saturday. The Smoke Eaters have won seven of their last nine games, including a 4-3 win Sunday in Trail over the Victoria Grizzlies which knocked Victoria out of first place in the Island Division.
In their only other meeting with Trail this season, Sept. 29 in Prince George, the Kings scored four goals in the third period to defeat the Smokies 6-4.
All but four of the 18 games the Spruce Kings have played this season have been on home ice. Their next home game is set for Friday, Nov. 18 when they host the Nanaimo Clippers.
