The Prince George Spruce Kings are in a celebratory mood, and hockey fans are the ones who will benefit.
The Spruce Kings, who have wrapped up their first division championship in their 22-year history in the B.C. Hockey League, have now made playoff tickets available. And, fans aged 19 and over who buy passes for both of the Kings' first two games will get them at a discounted rate, and are entered in a draw for a ticket for the team's Mega 50/50 Lottery.
The Mainland Division champion Spruce Kings will have home-ice advantage for at least the first round of playoffs, with the opening games set for Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3 at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena. Individual tickets for the 19-and-over crowd have a regular price of $15 each but those fans who buy for both games will get their tickets for a total of $20. The entry into the Mega 50/50 Lottery, which is held in conjunction with the club's annual Show Home Lottery, is the Kings' way of saying thanks for the support.
"The hockey fans of Prince George have been supporting our organization for the past 45 seasons," said general manager Mike Hawes in a media release. "They are a huge part of any successes the team has. This season we have a team that works very hard and is a pleasure to watch because you know that each and every game is going to be entertaining and exciting."
Season-ticket holders who have purchased their playoff tickets as part of season-ticket renewal packages can pick them up at Kings office inside RMCA starting on Thursday. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Spruce Kings don't yet know who they will face in the first round of playoffs. Regardless of the opponent, the objective is to get past the first round and go on an extended run.
"Our coaches and players should be very proud of their Mainland Division regular-season title, however they also realize that there are larger goals to achieve as the playoffs begin," Hawes said. "I know that these very deserving players will be excited to have large crowds on hand at the RMCA during the playoffs as they strive to bring a championship to the city of Prince George."
The Spruce Kings (30-17-4-4) will complete their regular schedule with Friday and Saturday road games against the Chilliwack Chiefs and a Sunday clash with the Langley Rivermen.
