The Prince George Spruce Kings may get a glimpse of the future this weekend.

The Kings' annual Spring Prospects Camp opens Friday at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena. More than 100 players (1997- to 2001-born) have registered for the camp, which will wrap up with a Top Prospects Game at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Last year, the Kings signed four players directly out of the camp - Parker Colley, Kyle Johnson, Nic Ponak and goaltender Liam McCloskey. Later in the season, two others who attended the spring gathering - Jesse Pomeroy and Liam Watson-Brawn - committed to the team and saw B.C. Hockey League action as affiliated players.

For the camp, players will be divided into six teams and will practice on Friday (noon, 1:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.) before the start of games later in the day (4:30 p.m., 6:15 p.m. and 8 p.m.).

Saturday game times are 10 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 5:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, one final set of games will be held. Start times are 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Forty players will then be invited to skate in the Top Prospects Game.

For fans, there is no admission charge to attend any of the ice sessions or the Top Prospects Game.

Last season, a rebuilding Kings team posted a 14-38-4-2 record and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2011.
