For the first time in the post-season, the Prince George Spruce Kings find themselves trailing 2-0 in a playoff series.
The Kings lost 8-1 to the Chilliwack Chiefs Saturday on the road in Game 2 of the best-of-seven B.C. Hockey League Mainland Division final series.
It was their second-straight loss to the Chiefs in the series after suffering a 3-2 defeat in Game 1 Friday.
They'll have to try and turn things around tonight when the series resumes tonight for Game 3 in Prince George at the Coliseum (7 p.m.).
Saturday night in Chilliwack, the Chiefs skated out to a 3-0 lead in the last half of the first period on goals from Mason Boh, Mark Esposito and Tipper Higgins.
Braiden Epp scored on the power play with 15 seconds left in the frame to narrow the Chiefs' lead to two goals.
After allowing three goals on nine shots in the first period, Kings netminder Jesse Jenks was pulled in favour of Alex Brooks-Potts for the second and third periods. It was the first appearance for Brooks-Potts in the playoffs.
Chilliwack continued to roll in the second period, outshooting Prince George 13-4 and tallying four goals for a commanding 7-1 lead.
Higgins scored his second of the game and 10th goal of the playoffs, while Craig Puffer, Jake Larson and Vincent Desharnais also notched goals.
Chiefs starting netminder David Jacobson, who saw action in the first two periods, was given a rest to allow back-up Aidan Pelino to see some playing time.
Puffer added his fifth goal of the playoffs at the 5:14 mark of the third period, and despite outshooting the Chiefs 9-5 in the period, the Kings did not find the back of the net.
Chilliwack outshot the Kings 27-24.
Prince George went one-for-four with the power play, while Chilliwack scored three goals on four opportunities with the man-advantage.
If the Kings are to have any success in Games 3 and 4 against the Chiefs, they'll have to stop the likes of 20-year-old Hand (17 points), 19-year-old Puffer (13 points), 20-year-old Higgins (12 points), and 17-year-old Jordan Kawaguchi (12 points) who are the top-four point-getters in the BCHL's post-season.
