Prince George Spruce Kings goalie Alex Murray has earned B.C. Hockey League Player of the Week honours after a solid three-game performance between the pipes last weekend.
Murray posted a .936 save percentage and a 1.97 goals-against-average, making 88 saves on 94 shots during the road trip through the Fraser Valley.
Prince George went undefeated, earning five of six points.
Murray was named the player of the game in a 4-1 win over Coquitlam Friday where he made 32 stops and came off the bench in a come-from-behind 5-4 double overtime victory Saturday in Chilliwack. He swept aside 36 shots in a double-overtime 3-3 tie Sunday against the Langley Rivermen.
Those numbers, combined with his record of 23-10-3, for a .916 save percentage, rank the 20-year-old netminder from Burlington, Ont. fifth overall amongst 31 goalies in the BCHL.
The Spruce Kings officially clinched second place in the Mainland Division last weekend (32-18-4-2) and host the division-leading Rivermen (35-13-3-5) Thursday and Friday nights at the Coliseum to wrap up their regular season.
With 70 points already on the regular season, the Kings have a chance to equal or set a new franchise record for overall points in the regular season.
The points record is currently 73 points, set in the 2011-12 season under head coach Dave Dupas.
The Spruce Kings are handing out their year-end awards on Saturday, March 1.
The public is welcome to attend the banquet at the Coast Inn of the North. Tickets are $29 and available either at the Spruce Kings office at the Coliseum or the Coast Inn of the North. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner follows at 6:30 p.m.
Prince George hosts the Coquitlam Express March 4 and 5 in the first round of the playoffs.
