The Prince George Spruce Kings have uncovered a giant to help fortify the blue line.
The Spruce Kings ventured down the trade route Wednesday and picked up six-foot-six, 210-pound defenceman Luke Formica in a deal with the Carleton Place Canadians of the Central Canada Hockey League for future considerations.
Formica is a 19-year-old product of Sterling Heights, Mich. In 37 games with the Canadians last season he assisted on eight goals while collecting 40 minutes in penalties.
"Luke is a big defenseman who skates very well for his size," said Spruce Kings general manager Mike Hawes. "Size on the back end is something that is important especially for our small ice surface in the Coliseum. We're excited to have Luke join our team."
Formica is expected to be in Prince George for the start of the Kings' main training camp, August 23-25 at the Coliseum.
