The Prince George Spruce Kings will not be playing this weekend.
The Spruce Kings told the Chilliwack Chiefs on Thursday not to bother coming north for their B.C. Hockey League games Saturday night and Sunday afternoon at the Coliseum due to the pending strike by unionized city employees, which takes effect Saturday morning.
"Our games this weekend have been cancelled and will be rescheduled at a later date," said Spruce Kings general manager Mike Hawes. "They have travel plans and hotels booked and meals booked, there's a lot of things to consider when you make a decision like this.
"I've been told by the city the union has elected to target the arenas on Saturday and I've been told there will be no unionized employees in the building Saturday and the building will be closed."
The two rescheduled games will be played either in January of February.
The Kings will be on the road next week, playing in Surrey on Thursday and in Chilliwack on Friday. Following the Christmas break, Prince George will play Jan 3-5 in Powell River, Port Alberni and Chilliwack, before a return to the Coliseum for a two-game set with Surrey Eagles, Jan. 10-11.
