Kings eliminated from BCHL playoffs

For only the second time in their 14-year history in the B.C. Hockey League, the Prince George Spruce Kings have missed the playoffs. A 7-0 loss to the Penticton Vees Sunday night in Penticton made that official.

For only the second time in their 14-year history in the B.C. Hockey League, the Prince George Spruce Kings have missed the playoffs.

A 7-0 loss to the Penticton Vees Sunday night in Penticton made that official. The Kings, who began the weekend with only a faint hope of catching the Trail Smoke Eaters for the seventh and final playoff berth in the Interior Conference, also lost 5-2 Friday to the Vernon Vipers.

The Smoke Eaters did what they had to, defeating the Westside Warriors in a two-game weekend home series at Cominco Arena, 4-1 Saturday, and 4-2 on Friday, to move one point ahead of the Merritt Centennials.

The Spruce Kings are now seven points behind the Cents with only three games to play. They finish the season this week with games Wednesday in Williams Lake, and games at the Coliseum Friday and Saturday against Williams Lake and Burnaby.
