Are you ready for playoff hockey Prince George?
The Prince George Spruce Kings, the defending champions of the B.C. Hockey League, are hoping home ice will provide the push they need to get back into their best-of-seven opening-round series with the Trail Smoke Eaters when the teams meet tonight (7 p.m.) in Game 3.
After two nail-biting losses over the weekend in Trail the Kings are down 2-0 in the series but have a chance to even it up on home ice with games tonight and Tuesday at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.
The Kings led Game 1 Friday until the 16-minute mark of the third period, when the Smokies scored two goals in the final few minutes to post a 2-1 victory.
Saturday night in Game 2 in Trail, Kings forward Fin Williams connected on a power-play chance 14 minutes into the third period to force overtime, but the Smoke Eaters put the finishing touch on another 2-1 win when Owen Ozar scored 6:34 into overtime.
Kings' 20-year-old goalie Jett Alexander was a star in both games, stopping 56 of 60 shots in the two games combined. BCHL rookie of the year Logan Terness, 17, was also sharp in goal for the Smoke Eaters and he notched both wins, blocking 49 of the 51 shots in the two games.
Tickets are available at the Kings' office at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena. If Game 5 is needed it will be played Thursday at RMCA. Games 6 and 7, if needed, would be played Saturday and Sunday in Trail.
