The Prince George Spruce Kings shored up their blueline on Monday.

The B.C. Hockey League squad acquired 19-year-old defenceman Adam Burnett from the Ancaster Avalanche of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League in exchange for future considerations.

Burnett is a six-foot-three, 205-pounder from Waterdown, Ont.

He played 35 games last season in the Ontario Junior Hockey League, split between the Stouffville Spirit and the Milton Icehawks, and recorded three goals, 14 assists and 62 penalty minutes.

He finished the season with the Avalanche, collecting two goals and 11 assists in 13 games.

Burnett's addition to the Spruce Kings means they now have a full complement of seven players patrolling the blueline, which include returnees Ryan Fritz, Alex Stoley and Stephen Penner.

"Adam is a big, strong veteran defenceman with great leadership abilities," said Kings general manager Mike Hawes. "He will play in all situations for us and make an already deep defence group even deeper. A lot of the success we have this season will start with our defencemen and Adam will be a big part of that."

The Kings main training camp begins Aug. 24 at the Coliseum at 7 p.m.
