Chad Staley scored on the power play in sudden-death overtime to lift the Prince George Spruce Kings to a 5-4 victory Monday night in Langley.
Staley's goal, his second of the game, was scored at the 8:56 mark of the extra frame.
The win gives the Kings a 3-2 series lead in the best-of-seven series, a B.C. Hockey League's Mainland Division quarter-final.
The series returns to Prince George tonight for Game 6 at the Coliseum (7 p.m.)
It was the first time in the series that a game went into sudden-death overtime.
Including Monday, the two teams met 14 times this season, but neither team has manufactured two-straight wins. Langley won Game 4 with a 4-1 score Saturday night in Prince George.
In a wild third period, the Rivermen's Matthew Graham notched his second of the game 70 seconds into the frame for a 3-2 lead.
Staley, the Kings captain, replied with a short-handed marker less than two minutes later to tie the game at three.
Kevan Killistoff gave the Rivermen a one-goal cushion five seconds into their power play at the 8:05 mark, but Spruce Kings forward Michael Buonincontri replied 14 seconds later to even the game at 4-4.
Neither team could score the winner in the remainder of regulation.
In the second period, the Rivermen took a 2-1 lead on goals from Jacob Kearley and Graham.
Buonincontri tied the game on the power play at the 17:48 mark.
The Kings only managed two shots in the second period.
Defenceman Cole McCaskill opened the scoring in the first period to give the Kings a 1-0 lead.
The Rivermen outshot the Kings 32-22.
Kings netminder Jesse Jenks, who has started in all five games, earned his third win of the post-season, while his counterpart Bo Didur is 2-3 in the series.
