On Monday, the Spruce Kings announced the acquisition of 19-year-old Mike Winn, a six-foot-three, 185-pound defenceman who played for the Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League last season. The Kings gave up future considerations in return.

"We are excited to add Mike to our organization," said Mike Hawes, general manager of the local B.C. Hockey League team. "He is a great young man who is a very reliable defenceman with excellent leadership qualities. He will be a very big part of our group next season. It's good any time you can add a big, physical defenceman that can play in all situations."

With the Eagles in 2015-16, Winn had two goals, 13 points and 42 penalty minutes in 39 games.

Winn, who hails from Ann Arbor, Mich., is scheduled to arrive in Prince George just prior to the start of training camp, Aug. 25 at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.

"I'm honoured and excited to be joining such a great organization," Winn said. "I can't wait to get out to Prince George and get the season going."
