The Prince George Spruce Kings added a third goaltender to their roster Thursday, acquiring Alex Murray from the Burlington Cougars of the Ontario Junior Hockey League for future considerations. The 20-year-old will join Jesse Jenks, 18, and returning sophomore Liam McLeod, 17, in battling for the starter's spot when the Spruce Kings open the 2013-14 BCHL season.
Murray stands at six-foot-one, 180 pounds. He posted a 19-13-1 record during 35 games last season with the Cougars, his second with the team, and a 3.28 goals against average and a .912 save percentage.
Prince George general manager Mike Hawes said Murray is a technically strong goaltender and he is looking forward to joining the Spruce Kings in the BCHL as he looks for fulfill his dream of attaining a NCAA Division 1 scholarship.
The Spruce Kings need to find a new starting goalie after veteran Kirk Thompson graduated from his junior hockey eligibility last season. Thompson spent four seasons in Prince George.
Jenks played last season in the BCMML with the South Island Royals.
The Spruce Kings will host a training camp for new recruits and returning veterans Aug. 23-25 at the Coliseum.
