A 30-minute break under a scorching sun wasn't enough for Randy's A's of Invermere, B.C.
The A's dropped the final game of the inaugural Potskin-Ghostkeeper Memorial Fastball tournament Sunday 4-0 to the undefeated Westbank Cardinals of Kelowna at Spruce City Stadium. In the double knockout tournament the Cardinals advanced straight to the final, while the A's played a semifinal game against Prince George's Big Guy Lake.
The A's scored three runs in the first innings against the Big Guy Lake. The 3-0 advantage lasted until the sixth inning. Prince George loaded the bases but was only able to score one run when Montana Turgeon scored from third on a sacrifice. The A's added a run in the top of the seventh inning for the 4-1 lead and then turned a double play in the bottom of the inning to end the game.
The A's had only a short rest before having to play the final against the Cardinals.
Big Guy Lake advanced to the semifinal game after a 1-0 win over the other Prince George team, Custom Edge Sports, in the 10-team event.
The Potskin-Ghostkeeper Memorial tournament replaces the annual Native Fastball tournament traditionally held on the July long weekend. The event honours the memories of Charlie Ghostkeeper, founder of the event, and former players Len and Cory Potskin.
Chad Ghostkeeper said it's the first time they've opened the tournament up for any team that wanted to play.
