Kayaks give Zone 8 two more medals

The young kayaker placed second in the women's skills competition earning a silver medal and then teamed up with a trio of teammates to win bronze in the mixed K4 500-metre race at the Pitt Meadows Paddling Club where the sun made an appearance after two days of rain.

Hansen, competing on the water in her second summer games, was joined in the kayak by her 2010 teammates Ryan Bennett, Josiah Fisher and Meryeta O'Dine.

In the pool, Kathryn Chrobot won a silver medal in the girls 400m individual medley to go with the gold she won Friday in the 200m backstroke. Her silver-medal winning time was 5:24.01

Unofficial results Saturday had Zone 8 with 13 medals, including four gold, five silver and four bronze. Vancouver-Squamish led the medal count with 34.

The competition and closing ceremonies in Surrey wrap up Sunday.
