Alyssa Connell's curling team won silver medals at the B.C. Winter Games last month, but they still have one more bonspiel left this week.
And it's a big one.
Connell and her rink of third Jordan Henson, second Jennilee Slaney, lead Julianne Slaney, and fifth Bailey Eberherr from the Prince George Golf and Curling Club, are competing this weekend in Vernon for the right to represent B.C. at the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
The qualifier tournament begins Friday and features seven teams from around B.C., including Carly Connor's team from PGGCC as well.
"Our mindset is really positive," said Connell's coach Wayne Colliss. "We're glad it's here. We know a couple teams from the B.C. Winter Games and there are others we don't know, but we're anxious to get started."
Connell and her teammates, whose average age is 15, are coming off a solid performance at the B.C. Winter Games in Mission, where they lost the final 8-1 to Dezaray Hawes from New Westminster's Royal City Curling Club.
"The B.C. Winter Games were really good and we just want to keep the momentum going," said Colliss. "With two teams from Prince George [in Vernon] we'll support each other."
The seven-team round-robin begins Friday and wraps up Sunday.
Connor's rink of third Jessie Withey, second Erin Ross and lead Carsyn Hamilton is the youngest team competing in Vernon with three 13-year-olds and one 14-year-old.
"They will get a lot of experience," said coach Doug Dalziel. "We're excited to go and we're really looking forward to it. It's been a long year but I hope they do well."
Prince George is also represented on the boys side in Vernon.
Dustin Withey will try to skip his team of third Brendan Carswell, second Coleton Vriesendorp and lead James Brown to victory in the six-team round-robin qualifier.
