Judokas podium at home tourney

Judokas from the North Capital Judo Club sparred to six medals in front of a hometown crowd at the B.C. Youth Provincial championship Saturday at the Northern Sport Centre.

Victoria Law won gold in the U-14 girls -32-kilogram division and Maxwell Young claimed gold in the U-14 boys -42kg division.

Braden Reed grabbed silver in the U-14 boys -66kg division.

Nicolas Richards won a pair of bronze medals, earning the first in the U-16 juvenile men -60kg division and the second in the U-18 cadet men -60kg division.

Alpine racers compete in Whistler Cup

Alpine ski racers from the Prince George Ski Club competed at the Whistler Cup last weekend, part of the International Kinder Race series. More than 400 athletes, coaches and 300 volunteers were at the race.

The Prince George club sent seven athletes between the ages of 12-15 who hit the slopes.

Lucas Gairns, 13, finished sixth in slalom and 24th in giant slalom.

Shawn Nydegger, 15, finished 44th in super giant slalom, while Gavin Rowell, 14, was 54th.

Tiana Gairns, 15, finished 53rd in giant slalom and was 39th in slalom.

Kaitlyn Martin, 13, was 50th in giant slalom, while Ella Lawrence, 12, was 54th in slalom. Jordan Ahlstrom, 12, was 69th in giant slalom.
