Judo clubs bring home medals

The three Prince George judo clubs won more than 30 medals at the Edmonton International Tournament last weekend at West Edmonton Mall. The North Capital Judo Club sent 21 judokas to the Alberta capital and captured eight medals.

The North Capital Judo Club sent 21 judokas to the Alberta capital and captured eight medals.

Devin White sparred to gold in the U16 juvenile boys 46-kilogram class and William Burkinshaw earned gold in the veteran men over-100kg class.

Silver medals were captured by Victoria Law in the U14 girls 32kg class; Simon Zorzi in the U14 boys 42kg class, and Braden Reed in the U14 boys 66kg class.

Bronze medals were won by Shayla White in the U14 36kg class; Shawn Young in the veteran men 73kg class, and Trevor Sakamoto in the veteran men 73kg class.

Lochlan Young went 2-2 in the U14 boys class; Maxwell Young was 0-2 in the U14 boys 42kg class; Nicolas Richards was 2-2 in the U16 juvenile boys 60kg class, while Braeden Davis was 0-2 in the U18 cadet men 60kg class.

For the U10 and U12 boys and girls divisions, everyone, from all clubs and provinces, was awarded participation gold medals.

The North Capital Judo Club judokas who received gold medals were: Raphael Encinas and Gabe Sakamoto in U10 boys. Asher Young, Aiden Crocetta, Miles Wood, Liam Cunningham, Max Novak and Luka Tiani won gold in the U12 boys class.

The Hart Judo Academy sent 16 judokas who returned with 16 medals.

Standing at the top of the podium were: Kimiko Kamstra in the U14 girls 40kg class; Matthias Schenk in the U14 boys 38kg class; Lavanna Laass in the U21 women 63kg class; Isaac Kamstra in the U12 boys 31kg class, and Brendan Bellavance in the U21 men 100kg class.

Laass also won silver in the senior women 63 kg class, while Koen Heitman won silver in the U14 boys 38kg class.

Bronze medals were captured by: Lorna-Jane Simmons in the U16 girls 52kg class; Alexandra Schenk in the U16 girls 48kg class, and Brendan Bellavance in the U21 over-100kg class.

Linus Frizzell and Oscar Moore won gold in U10, while Elizabeth Simmons, Tula Moore, Ethan Frizzell, Aydin Greenwood, Gabriel Paterson won gold in U12.

Four judokas from the Prince George Judo Club won nine medals.

Kristen Yawney won gold in the U18 women 70kg class; Kyle Wilkinson won silver in the U16 boys 60kg class, as did Tami Goto in the U14 girls 36kg class.

Ryan Russell won bronze in the U16 boys 50kg class.

Fallon Jones, won gold in U10 girls; Peyton Yon in U10 boys; Bryce Hayashi in U12 boys, and Sydney Edgson and Kyra Edgson in U12 girls.
