Local judo athletes once again proved they are among the best in Canada.

Local judo athletes once again proved they are among the best in Canada.

Members of the Hart Judo Academy and Prince George Judo Club - organizations that routinely produce national medalists each year - climbed the podium in large numbers in Edmonton on the weekend.

At the Edmonton International judo tournament, held at West Edmonton Mall, gold medal winners from the HJA, in various categories, were: Grace Greenwood, Lillian Chizik, Alexander Bickford, Aria Greenwood, Joshua Greenwood, Halle Forgues, Samantha Bickford, Daniel Sharf, Matthew Gorbett and Asher Young. Meanwhile, PGJC members who grappled to gold were: Lydon Holliday, Nevada Jones and Sydney Edgson.

From the HJA, a silver medal went to Lochlan Young. Silver winners from the PGJC were Lily McCullough, Grayson Holliday, Oskar Dewar, Tami Goto and Taylor Schaus.

Bronze medalists from the Hart club were: Peyton Yon, Gabe Paterson, Isaac Kamstra, Brooke Corbett and Ioan Frizzell. PGJC judokos who came home with bronze medals were: Levi Cartwright, Corbin Hillman, Edgson and Goto.

The next meet for local judo athletes is their home one, the P.G. Open, April 20-21 at Duchess Park secondary school.
