Allison Bogle remembers a time when there were five men's sides in the B.C. Indoor Soccer League.
That was back in 1994 when Bogle moved to Prince George after she graduated from the University of Alberta in Edmonton.
There weren't any women's indoor teams in Prince George at the time and she was president of the outdoor women's league.
How the times have changed.
The women's and men's leagues eventually joined forces and Bogle sat on the BCISL's board as the women's director.
"The women used to play in the Roll-A-Dome and and it slowly grew," she said. "By 1998 there were 10 teams. Now there are 17 women's teams."
Bogle eventually became president in the early 2000s and served as past-president for the last several years. She was recognized recently by the BCISL for her dedication for growing the game with a lifetime member award.
As the BCISL wraps up this week, there are now 49 teams in three different leagues - men's, women's, and co-ed - which number around 680 players who compete at the Northern Sport Centre at UNBC.
Current president Nathan Zurowski has played in the league for the last 17 years, first as a youth all-star at the Roll-A-Dome to now managing the men's Division 1 league, which has four sides.
He's seeing a shift in what players want.
"There's been a reduction of men's teams and a higher demand in co-ed," he said. "They can hang out with their spouses or girlfriends and boyfriends."
The popularity of the division has grown so much that they're booked at the NSC three nights per week on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in five different divisions.
There are now only two men's divisions, plus a Grand Masters league (50-plus) that features two sides.
The women's league is split into three divisions.
The 20-game season begins after Thanksgiving and includes three tournaments.
Registration takes place in September and can be done online at the BCISL's website at www.bcisl.com.
New players who don't belong to a team can sign up online and will be assigned to a team. New teams can also register online.
The AGM is set for May 5 at 7 p.m. in the Wolf Pack Den at the Northern Sport Centre. One team representative is required to attend. All members are welcome.
