Howse has 50-goal plateau in sight

Fifty goals in a season for one player is a magic number in any hockey league.

Fifty goals in a season for one player is a magic number in any hockey league.

Chiliwack Bruins winger Ryan Howse was thinking that milestone was unreachable before he came to back to his hometown this week for a two-game set against the Prince George Cougars.

Not anymore.

Having scored five goals and one assists at the expense of the Cougars in those two games Tuesday and Wednesday, the 18-year-old Calgary Flames draft now has 46 goals this season, tied for third in the WHL with Cody Eakin of Swift Current. Kyle Beach of Spokane leads the league with 52.

Howse now has two games left to pot four more goals, well within the reach a player of his calibre. Too bad for Howse he's not playing the Cougars again this weekend. He scored 13 goals in the eight head-to-head games with the Cougars and saved his best for last in the two games at CN Centre.
