This past weekend's spring opener marked the start of another season of iron-clanging horeshoe pitching in Quesnel.

The event knocked the rust off for Ida Boschman, Maurice Carpenter and Vic Vallee, all of Prince George. They came back from the Quesnel tournament undefeated.

Boschman was a perfect 3-0 in her run to the senior women's title, nailing 46 ringers for 118 points. Pat Duncan of Prince George was second, winning one of four matches. Boschman also placed second in the Class A women's event, while Duncan was third.

Carpenter went 3-0 pitching from 30-foot range in capturing the elders event. His radar was well tuned, with 56 ringers. He also placed third in the mixed A event.

Vallee was a white-hot winner in the men's Class A event, going undefeated at 6-0 with 108 ringers, 228 points and a 60 per cent throwing average.

In other Prince George results, Herb Boschman was second to Lloyd Osborne of Quesnel in the senior men's 40-foot class, and second to Phil Boudreau of Quesnel in the Class C event.

Duncan was second to Elaine Stern of Abbotsford in the women's Class B category.
