Hornet driver takes stock

Jasmine Sakawsky is still technically a rookie stock car driver, but she's proving she knows the fast way around the three-eighths mile oval track at PGARA Speedway.

The lure of taking a victory lap with one hand on the steering wheel and one holding a checkered flag has proved irresistible to Sakawsky.

After finishing second to her brother Justin in the opening Prince George Auto Racing Association meet, May 14, Jasmine has won the last two hornet class main events, including her victory in the feature race last Saturday. She now holds a 12 point lead over Justin in the hornet points standings, with just two meets left on the 2011 calendar.

A similar gap exists between first and second place in the Richmond Steel Street Stock class. Chris Arronge, on the strength of his main event win Saturday, now has an 11-point lead over Jerry Gascon. Arronge has 89 points, followed by Gascon (78) and Jim Chapman (69).

Arronge outdueled Chapman and third-place Jason Conn in the main event. The current points leader also won the heat race and had the fastest car in qualifying.

Justin Hall continues to lead the Admiral Roofing mini stock class with 172 points, and he increased that lead a little in Saturday's meet. Hall won the A dash and was second in the main event races. Tyler Case had the fastest mini in Saturday's time-ins and took first in the feature ahead of Hall and Brad Wallin.

Wallin is second in the standings, 28 points behind Hall , while Devin Barks ranks third, 51 points off the pace.

PGARA will be idle for the next month, resuming Aug. 13-14 with the Invitational meet for the street stock and mini stock classes.
