Hitmen double up Cougars in their only meeting of the season

The Prince George Cougars fell to the visiting Calgary Hitmen on Saturday at CN Centre by a score of 4-2. It was the only meeting of the season between the two teams.

The Hitmen didn't waste any time and got on the board first with Carson Focht potting his 28th of the season 1:21 into the game. Josh Prokop made it a 2-0 game scoring his 14th of the season 7:21 in the first frame.

Calgary kept on rolling to start the second with Riley Fiddler-Schultz notching his 7th of the season at 1:13 in the period. 42 second later Adam Kydd scored his 6th of the season giving the Hitmen a 4-0 lead and marked the end of the night for Cougars goaltender Taylor Gauthier who was pulled and replaced in net by Tyler Brennan after letting in 4 goals on 17 shots.

The Cougars finally got on the board at 5:54 of the second frame when Filip Koffer took advantage of a Hitmen player falling to break in alone and snipe a wrist shot blocker-side on Brayden Peters to score his 7th goal of the season. The Cats got within two when Josh Maser potted his 22nd goal of the season at 5:08 into the third. The Cougars pulled their goaltender with 2:20 left in the game but could not capitalize with the extra attacker. Prince George Cougars defenceman Ryan Schoettler made the save of the game late in the third by rushing back and diving to tip the puck wide of the empty net robbing the Calgary Hitmen of their 5th goal on the night drawing a large cheer from the crowd.

Shot on goal were 31-28 for Prince George.

Attendance was 4012 with nine elementary schools receiving tickets to the game for participating in the Cougars' Spirit of Healthy Kids program.
