Here comes the chief

Paul Collard has pulled a few teeth in his time as a Vanderhoof dentist but those routine duties in his full-time occupation hold none of the allure or prestige of the specialized task he's about to pull off at the 2010 Olympics.

As chief of competition of the biathlon events, Collard is the grand poohbah of the biggest skiing and shooting spectacle the world will see for the next four years.

During the Olympics, all that happens on the biathlon field of play is part of Collard's responsibility.

"No question, this is absolutely the pinnacle of my career," said Collard, who began his involvement in biathlon in 1986 when he served as chief of competition at the Northern B.C. Winter Games in Vanderhoof. "This Olympic experience is the culmination of about 12 years of involvement in this at the national level."
