RUHPOLDIONG, Germany (AP) -- On a day when Prince George biathlete Megan Heinicke posted one of her best -ever World Cup results, Fanny Welle-Strand Horn of Norway won her first World Cup race on Friday by edging three-time Olympic champion Darya Domracheva of Belarus over the 7.5-kilometre sprint course.
Horn covered the distance in 21 minutes, 7.4 seconds while staying perfect on both shooting ranges and beat Domracheva by 3.4 seconds. Domracheva also shot cleanly.
Tiril Eckhoff of Norway overcame one penalty lap to finish third, 9.3 seconds behind the winner.
Heinicke, 26, placed 11th overall with just one miss in two shooting rounds, in a time of 21:59.7, 52.3 seconds off the winning pace.
With her top-30 result, Heinicke qualified for Sunday's 12.5 km mass start race, along with Rosanna Crawford of Canmore.
Zina Kocher of Red Deer was 48th in the sprint and Julia Ransom of Kelowna was 81st.
Overall World Cup leader Kaisa Makarainen of Finland missed two targets to place seventh, 32 seconds behind. She is 82 points ahead of Domracheva in the overall standings.
The men's sprint is set for today.
