Harris impresses in WHL debut

Jordan Harris was like a wily veteran in his inaugural Prince George Cougars' game.

At least that's the impression Cougars head coach Mark Holick had. Holick said he didn't realize until after the game it was the 16-year-old defenceman's first Western Hockey League game in Wednesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Red Deer Rebels.

"For him to play like that I've got lots of confidence in him," said Holick. "We hope that he can continue that. Adrenaline probably took over on a lot of times but, hopefully that continues."

Holick was announced as the Cougars new coach, replacing Dean Clark, on Jan. 23 and he took over behind the bench two days later. Harris, who arrived in Prince George after Christmas, was recuperating from an injury he'd suffered during a midget game in December and was unavailable to play.

Against the Rebels, Harris played in all situations including on the power play, penalty kill and in the overtime period, alongside 20-year-old defensive partners Dan Gibb or Dallas Ehrhardt.

"It's kind of a confidence booster there for him not to realize it was my first game," said Harris. "It must mean I wasn't that far out of the loop of the game."
