Miranda Doerksen is a provincial champion.
Doerksen, who trains at the Prince George Gymnastics Club, won a gold medal in vault at the B.C. championships in North Vancouver on the weekend. She was competing in the Level 2 open category and also gave a bronze-medal performance on the uneven bars. In the all-around competition -- which also took into account placings on floor exercise and balance beam -- Doerksen finished seventh.
Three other P.G. gymnasts -- Lina Goto, Alia Wilson and Christopher Matthews -- also earned medals at provincials. In the Level 5 open class, Goto took silver on vault. Wilson, meanwhile, was handed a bronze medal for her floor routine in the pre-novice aspire division and Matthews (Level 3 boys) secured bronze medals in horizontal bar and pommel horse. He was also sixth on rings, 10th on floor and 11th on parallel bars, good for an all-around placing of eighth -- his best-ever finish.
Other local gymnasts at provincials were Bronwyn Ellington, Mekenna Parker, Erica Hirtz, Jessica Pallot, Naraa Little, Jaymie Hinks, Tianna Millns, Anna MacDonald, Rhiana Palfy, Brook-Lynn Kinnee, Colbey Simunac, Tyler Strizich, Evan Weis and Lane Oke.
