Local high school wrestlers were monsters on the mat last weekend in Edmonton.
Three grapplers -- Eric Halsall, Braden Van Grootel and Jag Sandhu -- all gave medal-winning performances at a meet held at the University of Alberta. Halsall, a Grade 11 student at D.P. Todd, topped the 72-kilogram senior category, which featured 29 wrestlers. Van Grootel, meanwhile, placed second in the 49 kg schoolboy division and Sandhu posted that same finish in the 59 kg senior class. Van Grootel is a Grade 8 student and Sandhu is in Grade 12.
The Zone 8 high school championships, which will qualify wrestlers for provincials, will be held at PGSS Feb. 15-16.
The provincial tournament is Feb. 28 to March 2 in Duncan.
