Local judo athlete Tami Goto had some extra weight in her luggage after attending a couple major tournaments on the far side of the country.
Goto, who trains at the Prince George Judo Club, fought to a silver medal at the Ontario Open in Toronto and battled to a bronze at the Quebec Open in Montreal. She was awarded both medals in the U-16 under-48-kilogram category. While in Montreal, Goto also moved up to the U-18 division and finished in fifth place.
Taylor Schaus, another PGJC athlete, won a silver medal at the Ontario Open as well. He took the second podium position in the senior under-55kg class. At the Quebec Open, Schaus posted a 1-2 record in the U-21 under-55kg category.
In other local results, Isaac Kamstra, Kimi Kamstra, Maxwell Young and Kurtis Cormack of the Hart Judo Academy all went 0-2 in their divisions at the Ontario Open. At the Quebec Open, Isaac Kamstra (U-16 under-46kg) won two matches and lost two, while Kimi Kamstra (U-18 under-48kg) was winless in her two fights. Young (U-18 under-55kg) also finished with a 0-2 record and Cormack (U-18 under-66kg) went 1-2.
