Golfer at his best during provincials

He was the only Prince George player in the field. And Roman Kozlowski did himself proud.

At the B.C. Golf bantam boys provincial championship, held at the Merritt Golf and Country Club, Kozlowski found himself in a pressure-packed environment but managed to post two solid rounds. On Monday, he shot 94, one of his best scores of the year in tournament play. Then, on Tuesday, he was a little unlucky on the greens and carded a 100 on the par-72 layout.

Kozlowski plays to a 26 handicap, so his opening round translated to a net score of four under par. Despite the difficulties with his putter in the second round, he was still only two over par for his net result.

Kozlowski, who is entering Grade 8 at College Heights secondary school, was representing the Prince George Golf and Curling Club.

Callum Davison of Duncan established himself as the B.C. champion when he fired rounds of 68 and 71 for a five-under-par total. Jake Lane of Fort St. John (73-68) finished two strokes behind and tied for second place with Tristan Mandur of Mill Bay and Raymond Li of Vancouver.

The bantam division is for players aged 13 and younger.

At the juvenile boys provincials, Aug. 21-23 at the Princeton Golf Club, Prince George's Blair Scott posted scores of 86 and 80 and barely missed the cut for the final round. In the 16-and-under championship, winner Henry Lee of Coquitlam finished at three under par, three strokes better than his nearest rivals. Lee's scores were 68, 71 and 74.
