Gold is for girls

For the under-12A girls soccer team, this is getting to be old hat.

For the under-12A girls soccer team, this is getting to be old hat.

The representative team from the Prince George Youth Soccer Association captured the golden step on the podium this past weekend at the Langly Labour Day tournament -- the second year in a row for this group of athletes.

The U12A team, coached by Jo Wankling, posted three wins and a draw, to outpoint the second-place Kamloops Blaze, thanks in large part to three shutouts from goalkeeper Patricia Miles. Game results were not available, but goal-scorers in the Prince George games were Shonda Couroux, Kenzie Lamothe, Haley Marquette, Hanna Emmonds and Sam Wankling.

This is the team's second year together, and many of the U12A players have steeled their skills with an appearance at the B.C. Summer Games as part of the zone team.
