Goalie leads team to tournament win

Braxtyn Shawara scored the winner on a breakaway halfway through the second period.

The Cougars hung on to the lead, even when they had to kill off consecutive penalties, including a five-minute major with seven minutes left in the third period.

The Prince George squad went undefeated in the tournament.

They beat the Kootenay Wildcats 6-1, thanks to a pair of goals from Aspen Vassallo, and single tallies from Jadyn Hickey, Jessica Herdman, Malena Pillipow and Shawara.

The Cougars shut out the Kamloops Mystix 3-0 on goals from Justine Guillet, Emmelin Leclerc and Shawara.

Hickey scored the game winner for the Cougars when they edged the Falcons 2-1. Mishayla Christensen netted the other goal for the Cats.

Hickey also scored the winner in the Cougars' 2-1 opening-game victory against the South Island Royals. Guillet tallied the other goal.
