Jesse Jenks is coming back to Prince George.
After a standout performance in the Prince George Spruce Kings' spring prospects camp in April, the Kings announced Wednesday they've signed the 18-year-old goaltender for the 2013-14 season.
Jenks, a six-foot-two, 180-pound native of Crofton, played 22 games last season for the South Island Royals of the B.C. Major Midget Hockey League, compiling a 7-14-1 record and 4.08 goals-against average.
"I am super excited and couldn't be happier to come to Prince George," said Jenks, in a team release. "Prince George is a great hockey town with lots of fan support. I was really impressed by the team during the spring camp and have heard good things about their program and commitment to get players to the next level."
The Kings consider Jenks well-skilled at his position, with a tendency to remain calm under pressure. The team will need a replacement for starting goalie Kirk Thompson, who graduated from the junior ranks.
"Jesse is a big goalie who is very technically sound, athletic and competes hard," said Spruce Kings general manager Mike Hawes. "I was very impressed by his play for his major midget team every time I watched him last year and he also had a very good spring camp with us in April. I look forward to Jesse continuing our team's run of having very good goalies."
